Plasma‐deposited AgO <i>x</i> ‐doped TiO <i>x</i> coatings enable rapid antibacterial activity based on ROS generation

To enable a rapid-acting antibacterial mechanism without the release of biocidal substances, TiO2 catalysts have been considered based on generation reactive oxygen species (ROS). Doping with dissimilar metals generates electron-hole pairs narrow band gaps promoting production ROS. Here, plasma technology is investigated to deposit Ag nano islets defective TiOx films, stabilized by postoxidation suppressing ion release. Importantly, ROS maintained upon storage in dark yet diminishing efficacy; however, it can be restored exposure visible light. The properties are found strongly correlate generation, which even functionalization hydrophobic polymer films. cytocompatible coatings offer promising applications for implants and other medical devices.
